Here's
some of the music I enjoy most and treasure (to be expanded over the
coming years; there's so much great music out there...).
February
2006: I got some feedback from visitors to this site, who suggested
that it would be a great idea, if some of the songs of the albums
recommended below could be listened to. I thought about that and
decided to add links to Amazon.com, where available. This will give
you the opportunity to listen to parts of the songs for some of the
albums and to decide for yourself, if you like the music or not.

Incredible
Blue Grass live performance of wonderful artists. This music
breathes fresh air into your soul.

|
Alison
Krauss & Union Station / New Favorite (LP)
Another
first class album of Alison & Union Station, this time a studio
recording with wonderful songs; superb sound too. |
Blues

Eric
Bibb / Spirit & The Blues / Opus 3 Records, 45 rpm (2 LPs)
This
LP is a must for every acoustic blues fan out there; Eric has a
stunning voice and blues feeling. Especially the solo blues / gospel
songs will get you hooked - by the way, the sound quality is awesome.

|
Ben
Harper & The Blind Boys of Alabama / There Will Be a Light /
Virgin Records (LP)
Another
must have; this album won the Grammy Award 2005 for 'Best
Traditional Soul Gospel Album' and deservedly so; go, get it and
listen to 'Well, Well, Well' for some raw and earthy blues... |

Classical
Music
|
Beethoven
/ Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) / Karajan & Berliner Philharmoniker /
DG 2531 103 (LP)
The
best performance of Beethoven's 3rd on vinyl I know of and
I've heard quite
a few ...

|
Boccherini
/ Jordi Savall / Le Concert Des Nations - Fandango, La Musica
Notturna di Madrid, etc. / AliaVox (CD)
Wonderful chamber
music composed
by Luigi Boccherini during his years in Spain. |

Jazz
|
Duke
Ellington / Unknown Sessions (LP)
Absolutely
wonderful and magic Ellington with his small
band -
a 60's recording. A treasure, if you like swinging jazz
at its best ... |
|
Bill
Evans
Trio /
Waltz for Debby / Riverside (LP)
A
true classic - one of the two outstanding trio sessions at the
Village Vanguard - and one of my favourite jazz
recordings.

Soundtrack:
Masked & Anonymous /
Columbia / C2K 90 618-1 (2
LPs)
Multicultural
performances of great Dylan songs. Some performances by
the master himself. |

Eva
Cassidy
/ Eva
by Heart / Blix Street (CD)
What
a soulful and pure voice. For me she is definitely one of the best
singers of all time. Also, great song material on this 1997 album of
the late folk singer Eva Cassidy - a true gem. |
|
Mark
Cohn / Mark Cohn / Atlantic (LP)
Singing
/ Songwriting at its best and highly underrated.
This
1991 debut recording shows Mr. Cohn's extra-ordinary talent in
arranging songs superbly; the music is stunning, too. (I don't know
why Mark Cohn is not played more often...)
|
|
James
McMurtry / Too Long in the Wasteland / CBS (LP)
I
discovered this gem at the European Triode Festival 2005 (ETF);
debut album of an outstanding song writer, produced by John Cougar
Mellencamp. Also recommended: McMurtry's
1995 CD 'Where'd You Hide the Body.' |
|
Jack
Johnson / In Between Dreams / Brushfire Records (LP)
The
3rd album
of Hawai'i
born Singer / Songwriter Jack Johnson is my favorite Pop Music album
in 2005 / 2006 so far. Jack Johnson puts out a lot of positive
feeling playing his guitar and his music makes me feel better
everytime I listen to it. Acoustic guitar playing for the soul... |
|
Oleta
Adams / Circle of One / Fontana (LP)
Wonderful
songs and an amazing voice. This 1990 debut album is stunning,
soulful and leaves me wondering, why this singer hasn't become
a super star. Highlights are Get Here, Rhythm of Life, Everything
Must Change and the title track; an absolute must own. |
